FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2007

Tuesday, November 27, 2007 (Pittsburgh, PA) —  Howard Shapiro’s new children’s illustrated book, “Hockey Days” (w/Foreword by Tom Cochrane) completed a hat trick of sorts in November by being featured in national publications USA Hockey Magazine, The Hockey News and Sporting News.

USA Hockey Magazine kicked things off at the beginning of November by featuring the book in their “Gear Up” section. The November 6th issue of The Hockey News displayed the book in their 2007 Holiday Gift Guide and wrote “author Howard Shapiro weaves a poignant tale about the love of hockey and bond between father and son.” And this week, Sporting News named “Hockey Days” in their 2007 Gift Guide calling it “one of the best gifts for kids” and writing “Shapiro intertwines family and hockey so well that customer reviewers on one Canadian website offer the highest praise: it’s written with a Canadian sensibility and feel though Shapiro is American.” The link to the Hockey News feature is http://www.thehockeynews.com/marketplace/86-The-Hockey-Book-Arena.html and for the Sproting News Gift guide please go to http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=309115

“It’s really been amazing,” said Howard Shapiro. “To me, the only hockey magazine that’s ever mattered is The Hockey News and to see my book in there, let alone next to books by Ken Dryden and Gare Joyce is really remarkable. Plus, making it into the Sporting News which I’ve read for many years and having them call my book one of the best gifts for kids means a great deal and is a huge honor for me. My Canadian distributor told me that he thought it was really unprecedented that an independently published book could garner so much national recognition and acclaim.”

Howard will be signing copies of “Hockey Days” at Joseph Beth Booksellers this Saturday, December 1st from noon to two o’clock and he is also holding a raffle for a Pittsburgh Penguins Pennant that has been signed by Mark Recchi, Ryan Whitney and Ryan Malone with all proceeds benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer, The Mario Lemiuex Foundation and Shoot for a Cure.

“Hockey Days” is available at Borders stores, Amazon.com and at Chapters, Indigo and Coles stores in Canada. Copies can also be ordered by calling 866.520.4286 or at www.hockeydays.net
